Tour Overview

Are you ready to chase the legend of Pegasus across the ancient paths of Lycia? Most people know the iconic winged horse, but few know his full myth. According to Greek lore, Pegasus was born from Medusa’s blood when Perseus beheaded her. With the help of Athena—some say Poseidon—the hero Bellerophon captured Pegasus and rode him into battle against the fire-breathing Chimera.
It is said Pegasus struck the monster into the depths of the mountains with his hooves, where it remains imprisoned. When Bellerophon later tried to fly to the heavens, he fell, and Pegasus rose to the sky as a constellation and the loyal servant of Zeus.

Why do we tell this ancient tale?
Because on this journey, you will ride through the very landscapes where myths meet mountains.

Your Adventure on the Eastern Lycian Way

Join us for a 7- or 8-day horseback expedition along the most spectacular section of the Eastern Lycian Way, one of Turkey’s most iconic long-distance trails. This famous 540 km route—originally a Lycian footpath and mule track—was mapped and opened in 1999 by researcher Kate Clow. Today, we follow approximately 150 km of its eastern stretch on horseback.

Some parts bring us into remote villages and untouched mountain forests, while others lead through zones open only to backpackers, making this experience uniquely authentic.

A Region Steeped in Ancient History

Lycia was once a thriving civilization on the Teke Peninsula, along today’s Muğla and Antalya coasts. Traced back to the Late Bronze Age, the Lycian people founded powerful maritime city-states and created the famous Lycian League. Their strategic location offered control over sea trade—and at times, piracy.

Over the centuries, Lycia came under Persian, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman rule, all leaving their marks across the region. The dramatic rock-cut tombs and monumental sarcophagi carved into cliff faces still stand as proof of Lycian craftsmanship and culture.

ITINERARY

This tour is available upon special request and tailored arrangements. Please contact us for further details and booking.

Day 1 — Arrival

Welcome to the Lycian coast! After landing, you will be transferred to your hotel for check-in and a well-deserved rest. Later, we enjoy a relaxed walk through the charming seaside town of Kemer.
(No riding on this day.)

Day 2 — Meet the Horses & Warm-Up Ride

After breakfast, we head to the stables where the adventure truly begins.
You’ll meet your horses, receive safety instructions, and help with brushing and saddling.

Our first ride is a gentle 2-hour loop through the forests of Kuzdere to assess each rider’s level and match everyone with the best horse for the trail ahead. Along the way, we pass orange and pomegranate orchards, the remains of an ancient village, natural springs, and a tiny palm grove.
Pace: walk, trot, canter.

After the ride, guests can relax by the pool or enjoy the beach before packing for the trail.
In the evening, we gather for a welcome dinner followed by a magical sunset tour to the eternal flames of Mount Chimera.

Day 3 — Into the Mountains

The real trail begins right after breakfast. After 1.5–2 hours of riding, we reach a stunning canyon carved by a mountain river—perfect for photos, swimming, or simply drinking fresh cold water straight from nature.

From here we start our ascent to the highest peak in the region: Mount Tahtalı (2365 m). The path climbs steadily and offers ideal stretches for trotting and cantering.

Our first major stop is the village of Gedelme, known for its ancient castle, mysterious caves, and a monumental tree believed to be around 2,500 years old.
Tonight, we sleep in a 150-year-old village house and experience traditional Turkish family life.
Pace: walk, trot, canter.

Day 4 — “Lycian Switzerland”

After breakfast, we ride toward the hidden high valley of Ovacık, dotted with shepherd huts. Here, we get a glimpse of highland life and enjoy freshly prepared lamb for lunch. Wide green meadows invite us to stretch into exhilarating gallops and let the horses graze peacefully.

By late afternoon, we reach our campsite in a beautiful plane-tree forest. We feed and brush the horses, set up tents, enjoy dinner by the fire, and sleep under the stars.

Day 5 — Touch the Sky

We begin with breakfast and caring for the horses before climbing Mount Tahtalı once again. Today we reach an altitude of nearly 2000 meters. As the landscape changes, we enter cloud-covered ridges where the sky feels close enough to touch.

After crossing the high point, we descend toward Beycik, a mountain village overlooking both sea and peaks. There we rest, enjoy dinner, take showers, look after our horses, and stay overnight in comfortable rooms (no tents tonight).
Pace: mostly walk and trot, with short gallops.

Day 6 — Down to the Sea

Today we begin our descent toward sea level. The journey takes around 6–7 hours through untouched coastal scenery and dramatic bays. After crossing the biggest bay of the day, we arrive at Turtle Bay, a protected national park area accessible only to backpackers.

Our tents and meals are prepared in advance. You may swim—with or without your horse—in this wild hidden paradise.
Pace: walk and trot along the trail; canter on the beach (perfect for photos and videos).

Day 7 — Five Bays & Ancient Phaselis

We start riding back toward the ranch, passing through five spectacular bays and the ancient ruins of Phaselis, a 2,000-year-old Lycian-Roman port city.
The path to Phaselis is narrow and rocky, making it the most technically challenging section of the whole route. Riders will need to walk beside their horses for a short distance.

We take a lunch break among the ruins before continuing toward Tekirova, where we enjoy long trots and gallops back to the ranch.

Day 8 — Departure

After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye. Riders check out and are transferred to the airport. On the way, we may stop to pick up local souvenirs.
